Roos Wrap – Rnd 16

A windy and wet Pickering Brook was the assignment for the Roos this week in another crucial game for our boys.

Tank, Jonesy, Zane and Lochy made way for Sep, Dev, LG, Scotty, T.Bag and Brucey, (more ins than outs as we played twenty four players this week).
The blustery conditions certainly made for an interesting start to the game with both teams struggling to come to terms with the breeze. We had the ball locked in our forward line but were unable to convert our opportunities. Mundaring had kicked one goal seven to quarter time wasting numerous chances with a breeze that was blowing directly across the ground… a six point lead at the first break.
Shaggy and Sep were dominating in the middle and Tyson had found his range setting up his team mates with some precision passes. Goals to Ad’s, Sep, Shaggy and one after the siren to Tyson had the Roos ahead by fourteen points at the main break.
Thinks weren’t all rosy however with Dev gone for the day after copping a heavy knock.  The boys were struggling to pick the ball up and this was leading to numerous turnovers and when we lost Greggy to a nasty hit to the head early in the third term, it was certainly game on!  As Seppy came in to fly the flag for his injured teammate, he quickly went out the back door minus a tooth as the dropkick (keeping this forum polite) from Pickering Brook continued his stupidity by grabbing Tyson around the neck. It wasn’t until T.Bag turned up that he began to see reason however it still took four red cards from the umpire to get him off the ground.  Sep kicked the resultant free kick from the goal square – our only one for the quarter as we struggled to keep the Hawks out in a quarter where our margin was trimmed to eight points at the final change. Our backline was being led by well by Chook, Paddock, LG and Jewey and each were key in keeping our noses in front whilst our forwards struggled to take advantage of their hard work.

Some terse words from coach Ad’s at the three quarter time huddle had the boys reassessing their efforts and the scene was set for a big last quarter. Kizza was moved into the middle of the ground alongside Tyson, Sep and Shaggs and it paid instant dividends with goals to T.bag and Ad’s.  This thankfully gave us some breathing space but the Hawks weren’t done however, kicking the next two to get the margin back to eight points once more.  It wasn’t until Tbag kicked his third goal and the last for the game that we had it won… the final siren heralded a very hard earned win by thirteen points.
Tyson, Sep, Shaggy and Chook were our best with Braeden rewarded for a great last quarter with fifth best.  Greggy took home the coins winning the coach’s award for his efforts prior to having a little rest.
T.Bag and Sep each booted three goals for the game, with Ad’s kicking two and Tyson one. Jimmy, Rhino and Musto worked hard all day in what was a great win for the Mundaring Football Club.
Some special mentions from the day with Zane getting motivational before the game, T.Bag and LG for their ‘Live Commercial’ at the awards for Mr Magic Car Wash, telling all and sundry about the new machine! Tommy gets a quick mention for his efforts with the discuss on Mundaring Weir Rd and Sep (or shall we call him ‘Fang’), for his speed in getting into the dentist before Dessy could notice the damage.
Another big test up against Mounties at home next week in what will be Shaggy’s 150th game… a fantastic effort from a guy who has a given his all for our club having barely played a bad game in the process. Well Done Shaggs!

Go Roos!
