Roos Wrap – Rnd 9 2018

Roos Wrap

A big game against the Bushrangers last week as the Roos looked to gain some momentum. Della, Myles, Callum, Maitland and Beavo, made way for Austin, Lachlan, Tom Greig and Tank back from a lengthy spell with injury.
After a forfeit, early in the year it was an opportunity for both sides to test each other out and problems from the start as Andy hobbled to the bench before either side had scored.
The Roos quickly settled to register the first goal of the game through Aussie, Jake chimed in with back to back to back long range goals to jump the Bushrangers. Lindsay joined the party with a couple of his own, Lachlan found space to kick our sixth and when Aussie got on the end of some great work further up the field to kick the last two for the quarter it was 8 goals to 2 at the first change.
It was the Bushrangers chance to take advantage of the breeze in the second as they looked to get their way back into the game and they kicked the first a couple as they began to find their range. We continued to have opportunities to kick on goal but our accuracy left us as Aus, Tyson and Jake all missed shots they should have kicked. Tank finally got us back on track and when Lindsay and Dylan followed suit we had steadied a 6-goal margin at the main break.
Luke must have forgotten to shower as no one wanted to go near him, he and Marty had the ball on a string as they continued thwart the Bushrangers attack on goal.
More of the same in the third as Tyson and Aus shared the ball well to kick the first three between them, Gaz kicked a long bomb and Kizza hit the scoreboard for his first of the game, we were 10 goals up at the last change.
We didn’t let up in the last as the Bushrangers lack of numbers began to show, another 6 for the quarter had us big winners on the day. Aussie 6, Tyson, Gaz and Lindsay 3, Tank and Jake 2 a piece, Lachie, Dylan and Jesse one each.
Luke our best on the day with a dominant performance across half back, Jakey next best for his hard running, Dylan third best for his hustle and bustle in the middle and Marty rounding out the top four on what was our best team performance of the year.
An opportunity for redemption today as the boys look to atone for a narrow loss in the first round against Gidgegannup. Back on our own ground we take the opportunity to welcome back our successful 2008 team as they celebrate 10 years since our last premiership.
Lots of tall stories as Zac’s bombs from the wing get longer, Tanks hit gets bigger and Dave’s fend offs and candy across half back become the stuff of legend. It was a great year for the club, going through undefeated but it was a close finish as we came from behind at the last change to beat Gidgey by 5 goals.
Welcome back boys and enjoy as the young Roos join Tank, Tyson, Maitland and TBag from that day in taking on Gidgegannup in a must win game for our season.

Carn the Roos!
